Lars Mortimer
1946–2014
Lars Mortimer was a Swedish cartoonist best known for creating the long-running comic strips *Bobo* and *Hälge*. He was born on 22 March 1946 and passed away after a brief illness on 25 August 2014 in Alfta, Hälsingland, at age 68. Mortimer entered comics as both writer and artist, developing a straightforward, expressive style that suited his gag-driven storytelling. His most famous work, *Hälge*—a strip centered on a moose and its woodland companions—became a staple in Swedish newspapers and annual albums, with Mortimer handling pencils, inks, colors, and lettering. He also produced *Bobo*, another popular series, and contributed to *Hemmets veckotidning*. Over a career spanning from 1978 to 2020, he was credited on 46 issues, primarily through the *Hälge* collections and specials. Mortimer’s collaborations were largely self-contained, as he wrote and drew his own material. His legacy rests on creating two of Sweden’s most recognized comic characters, with *Hälge* continuing in reprints after his death. He received no major awards documented in available sources, but his strips remain widely read in Sweden.
