Larry Gonick
Larry Gonick (born August 24, 1946) is an American cartoonist best known for *The Cartoon History of the Universe*, a sweeping, multi-volume history of the world told in comic form. He began serializing the work in 1977 and completed it in 2009. Born in the United States, Gonick originally studied mathematics and earned a graduate degree in computer science before turning to cartooning. His ability to distill complex subjects into clear, humorous comics led to a series of co-written educational guides, starting with *The Cartoon Guide to Genetics* in 1983. He later produced *The Cartoon History of the United States* and numerous other science and math guides, often collaborating with experts in each field. Gonick’s style is clean, expressive, and meticulously researched, making him a pioneer in using comics for education. He has been called the most well-known and respected cartoonist applying the medium to unraveling scientific mysteries. His work appears in collections such as *Neo-Babelonia* and *Itchy Planet*, and he contributed to *High Times Magazine*. Gonick remains active, with his books in continuous print and widely used in classrooms. He has received recognition for his unique contributions to both comics and education.
