His most famous creation is Herbie Popnecker, a character he co-created with artist Ogden Whitney under the pen name Shane O'Shea. Hughes's work is most prominently featured in titles such as *Unknown Worlds*, *Forbidden Worlds*, *Adventures into the Unknown*, *Sinister Tales*, *Amazing Stories of Suspense*, and *Uncanny Tales*.
