Krystine Kryttre

Krystine Kryttre was born in 1958 in San Francisco, California, and is an American alternative comics artist, painter, animator, writer, and performer now based in Los Angeles. She first published her comics in punk zines out of San Francisco before moving to Los Angeles in 1991. Her work is dark, explicit, and visually distinctive, often employing a scratchboard gothic style that critic Scott McCloud described as blending "the curves of childhood and the mad lines of a Munch." Kryttre is best known for her contributions to underground comics anthologies including *Weirdo*, *Raw*, *Wimmen's Comix*, *Tits & Clits Comix*, and *Twisted Sisters*. Her story "'Bimbos From Hell," published in *Weirdo* #22 (1988), chronicles her relationship with fellow cartoonist Dori Seda. In 1990, Cat-Head Comics released her collection *Death Warmed Over*, and Last Gasp published *The #@@! Coloring Book* in 2001. She worked as a writer and creative producer for the "Anemia & Iodine" segment of the sketch comedy series *KaBlam!* (1996) and as an animator on the film *Freaked* (1993). From 2002 to 2008, she performed with the Corpus Delicti Butoh Performance Lab. Later work includes satirical toys "Abu & 'Mo," inspired by the Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay controversies. Her comics have been exhibited in galleries since the late 1980s, and she has been credited on ten published issues from 1987 to 2016.
