Henry Kenneth Bulmer was born on 14 January 1921 in London, England, and died on 16 December 2005. A prolific British writer best known for his science fiction novels, Bulmer also made a significant mark on British comics, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s. He contributed to over a dozen issues of *Valiant* and *Knockout*, two of the most popular adventure weeklies of the era. His most notable comic work was on *The Steel Claw*, a strip about a scientist who gains an invisible, indestructible hand after an accident, which he wrote for *Valiant* and its annuals. Bulmer’s scripts were marked by a brisk, efficient storytelling style that suited the fast-paced demands of weekly comics. He collaborated closely with artists such as Jesús Blasco, who brought a dynamic, expressive line to *The Steel Claw*. Beyond comics, Bulmer was a steady hand in British SF, writing numerous novels and series, often under pseudonyms. His later years saw him continue writing into the 1980s, though his output slowed. He received no major awards for his comics work, but his contributions helped define the tone of British adventure strips during their peak.
