Kamui Fujiwara, born September 23, 1959, in Arakawa, Tokyo, is a Japanese manga artist and character designer. His father served in the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. After graduating from the Kuwasawa Design School, Fujiwara made his debut in 1979 with *Itsu mo no Asa ni*, which earned an honorable mention in the 18th Tezuka Award—the same year Tsukasa Hojo won the top prize. Deeply influenced by Katsuhiro Otomo, Fujiwara developed a precise, detail-oriented style. His pen name, adopted in high school, derives from the Ainu god of creation, Kamuy. He contributed stories to the anthology *Petit Apple Pie* and is best known for his work on *Raika*, *Dragon Quest: The Mark of Erdrick*, and *Unlucky Young Men*. His catalog credits him as artist, colorist, and inker on 13 issues from 1992 to 2026. Fujiwara’s meticulous linework and design sense have made him a respected figure in manga and character design, though he remains less internationally known than some peers.
