Julie Doucet was born on December 31, 1965, in Canada, and emerged as a singular voice in underground comics. She is best known for her raw, autobiographical work, particularly *Dirty Plotte* and *My New York Diary*, which unflinchingly explore sex, violence, menstruation, and the dynamics between men and women. Her path into comics began in the late 1980s, and she quickly distinguished herself with a dense, scratchy pen style and a willingness to put her own life and fantasies on the page. Over a career spanning from 1988 to 2022, she served as artist, writer, inker, letterer, and colorist on 51 issues, with her most credited titles including *Dirty Plotte*, *Dirty Plotte: The Complete Julie Doucet*, and *Twisted Sisters Comics*. She collaborated with fellow alternative comics figures and was a key part of the feminist wave in 1990s comix. Later in life, she moved away from comics into visual art, but her influence on autobiographical and confessional cartooning remains profound. Her work has earned major recognition, including the Angoulême International Comics Festival's Grand Prix, cementing her legacy as a foundational figure in the alternative comics scene.
