John Waltrip
John Waltrip (born 1963) is an American comic book artist and writer, best known as one half of the identical twin creative team Waltrip Brothers. Alongside his brother Jason, he built a reputation for clean, dynamic storytelling and a polished line style that became a hallmark of 1980s and 1990s licensed comics. The brothers entered the industry in the late 1980s, working primarily on *Robotech* titles for Eternity Comics and later Academy of Comic Art. John Waltrip’s credits include inking and art on *Robotech II: The Sentinels Book II*, *Robotech: Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles*, and *Robotech: Genesis: The Legend of Zor*, as well as original projects like *Tsunami Girl*, *Lili*, and *Shattered Earth*. His work often featured precise figure work and a clear, accessible visual style suited to both sci-fi action and character-driven stories. The Waltrips were among the first comic creators to transition to webcomics in the early 2000s, experimenting with digital distribution. John Waltrip’s career spanned roughly 18 years of active publishing, from 1988 to 2006, with a total of 13 credited issues in the company’s catalog. While he did not receive major industry awards, his contributions to the *Robotech* comics line helped sustain the franchise’s fanbase during a period of limited new animation. He remains a notable figure in the small circle of creators who kept the *Robotech* universe alive on the page.
