John Kovalic was born Robert John Kovalic, Jr. on November 24, 1962, in the United States. He is best known as the creator of the long-running comic series *Dork Tower*, a humor strip that affectionately skewers gaming culture, comic fandom, and geek life. Kovalic’s path into comics began as a cartoonist and illustrator, and he soon became the primary artist, writer, and letterer for *Dork Tower* and its spin-offs, including *Dork Tower Clicky Special* and *Dork Tower - Das Tao des Igor*. He also created the superhero parody *Lethargic Lad* and contributed to *The Wild Life Journals*. His signature style combines clean, expressive linework with a keen eye for character-driven comedy, often collaborating with writers and publishers in the indie and gaming-comics scene. Among his notable co-creations is the character of Igor, a goth-penguin sidekick who became a fan favorite. Kovalic’s work appeared regularly from the 1990s through the 2010s, and his collected editions, such as *The Collected Dork Tower*, helped cement his influence in the niche of hobbyist humor. Though he never received major mainstream awards, his contributions to gaming comics earned him a dedicated following. Kovalic remains active in illustration and writing, with his work continuing to resonate with fans of tabletop and pop-culture comedy.
