Johanna Sinisalo
Johanna Sinisalo, born Aila Johanna Sinisalo on June 22, 1958, in Finland, is a versatile writer best known for her science fiction and fantasy novels and short stories. She entered the comics field in 1986, contributing scripts primarily to the Finnish anthology *Sarjari*. Her work in comics is a facet of a broader career that includes screenplays for television and radio, as well as editing anthologies. Sinisalo’s prose fiction has made her a prominent voice in Finnish literature, marked by a distinctive blend of speculative elements and social commentary. In 2022, she received the Pro Finlandia Medal, a decoration of the Order of the Lion of Finland, recognizing her outstanding artistic contributions. While her comics output is modest—credited on 19 issues through 2026—her impact on the medium is part of a larger legacy that has helped shape Finnish genre fiction.
