Jim Toomey
1960–
Jim Toomey, born James Patrick Toomey in 1960, is an American cartoonist best known as the creator of the long-running comic strip *Sherman's Lagoon*. He first entered the comics field in 1996, and over the following decades, his work appeared in numerous collections and special editions, including *In Shark Years I'm Dead: Sherman's Lagoon Turns Fifteen* and *Onward and Downward: The Twenty-Second Sherman's Lagoon Collection*. Toomey served as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on his series, demonstrating a hands-on approach to every aspect of the strip. His signature style blends gentle humor with a keen eye for marine life, often featuring the misadventures of a lazy great white shark named Sherman and his underwater friends. While Toomey has not been a frequent collaborator with other creators, his solo work has found a dedicated audience in both newspapers and collected volumes. He remains active in the industry, with his strip continuing to appear in syndication. Though major awards have not been a prominent part of his career, Toomey's consistent output over more than two decades has secured his place as a distinctive voice in modern comic strips.
