Jerry Scott
b. 1955
Jerry Scott was born on May 2, 1955, in the United States. He is a cartoonist and writer best known as the co-creator of two of the most widely syndicated comic strips of the last few decades: *Baby Blues* and *Zits*. Scott is one of only four cartoonists to have multiple strips appear in over 1,000 newspapers worldwide.
His path into comics began with a focus on writing and art, and his career credits span from 1988 to 2016, with his work appearing in titles such as *Nancy* and various European collections like *Zits julehefte* and *Serie-paraden*. *Zits*, which he co-created with Jim Borgman, follows the life of teenager Jeremy Duncan and his family, and became a defining strip for its humorous yet empathetic take on adolescence. *Baby Blues*, co-created with Rick Kirkman, explores the chaotic, loving world of new parenthood.
Scott’s signature style blends sharp, relatable dialogue with clean, expressive linework, making his strips accessible and enduring. His collaborations with Borgman and Kirkman produced work that resonated deeply with readers. Later in his career, he continued to write and draw, maintaining a steady presence in newspapers. He has received multiple awards for his work, including the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year, cementing his legacy as a master of the modern family comic strip.
