Jean-Marc Rochette
1956–
Jean-Marc Rochette was born on 23 April 1956 in France. He is a painter, illustrator, and comics creator, best known for his work on the series *Edmond le Cochon* and *Le Transperceneige*—the latter adapted into the film *Snowpiercer*. Rochette also gained recognition for his illustrations of literary classics, including Voltaire's *Candide* and Homer's *Odyssey*. His path into comics began in the 1980s, and he has since worked as an artist, colorist, inker, and writer on 14 issues spanning 1984 to 2024. Among his most credited titles are *Snowpiercer*, *Panique à Londres*, *De laatste koningin*, *Der Wolf*, and *Schneekreuzer*. Rochette's style is marked by a painterly, atmospheric approach that often blends stark realism with expressive, textured linework. He collaborated closely with writer Jacques Lob on *Le Transperceneige*, co-creating that seminal dystopian series. Later in his career, Rochette continued to produce graphic novels and fine art, maintaining a presence in both the French comics scene and the broader art world. His contributions have been recognized with major awards, including the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival Prize for Best Series.
