Jean-Luc Masbou

Jean-Luc Masbou, born on 14 March 1963 in Figeac, France, is a French cartoonist best known for his work as the artist on the swashbuckling fantasy series *De cape et de crocs*. He studied at the École supérieure de l'image in Angoulême, a training ground that shaped his clean, expressive ligne claire style. Masbou also wrote and drew the series *L'Ombre de l'échafaud*, handling both script and art. His most frequent collaborator is writer Alain Ayroles, with whom he created the long-running *De cape et de crocs*—a witty, theatrical adventure set in a world of anthropomorphic animals and masked heroes. Masbou’s credits span 44 issues from 1995 to 2024, including work on *Mit Mantel und Degen*, *Collectie Buitengewesten*, *Fjerne Horisonter*, *Conan de avonturier*, and *Le Baron*. In addition to penciling, he often served as colorist and inker. His detailed, dynamic panels and gift for period-inspired storytelling earned him a devoted readership in European comics. Masbou remains active, with his legacy anchored in the enduring popularity of *De cape et de crocs*, a series that continues to delight fans of intelligent, visually rich adventure comics.
