Jan Gissberg
1948–
Jan Gissberg, born 13 August 1948 in Sweden, is a cartoonist, animator, and film director best known for his long tenure drawing the classic Swedish comic *91:an Karlsson*. After high school, he studied advertising and illustration at Konstfack in Stockholm but left early to pursue animation and cartooning. He began his career as an animator under Stig Lasseby before moving into directing. Gissberg’s comic work is marked by a notably high production speed, which made him a reliable hand on long-running series. He contributed to *Lilla Fridolf* and, from the 1970s, was one of the artists on *Aron Rapp*, collaborating with writer Magnus Knutsson. In our catalog, he is credited as artist, colorist, and inker on 41 issues between 1979 and 2000, primarily on *91:an* and *Aron Rapp Privatdetektiv*. In 1992, Gissberg received a Guldbagge Award in Sweden for his artistic career. His legacy rests on his steady, prolific work in both animation and newspaper comics, where his clean, efficient style kept beloved characters alive for decades.
