James Greer (born 1971) is an American novelist, screenwriter, and musician who also worked briefly in comics as a letterer. Active from 1991 to 1993, he is credited on twelve issues, with his most frequent assignments including *Perramus: Escape from the Past*, *Freaks*, *Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire*, *Billie Holiday*, *Lucifer's Hammer*, and *Ramba*. His lettering work appeared during a fertile period for independent and licensed comic adaptations. Outside comics, Greer built a career as a writer of fiction and screenplays, and as a musician, though his comic book contributions remain a niche footnote. He is not to be confused with the 19th-century naval officer James Augustin Greer (1833–1904), the politician Jim Greer (born 1962), or the fictional Tom Clancy character of the same name. No major awards or later comic work are recorded for Greer, whose brief tenure in the industry is remembered primarily by collectors of early-1990s alternative and licensed titles.
