Isabelle Dethan
1967–
Isabelle Dethan was born on 28 December 1967 in Bègles, France. She earned a master’s degree in literature and a teaching certificate in library technology before entering comics. Her first published work appeared in the German magazine *Schwermetall*, and in 1992 she won the Alph’Art Avenir prize at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. The following year, she began her trilogy *Mémoire de Sable*, and she has been a regular contributor to the magazine *Je bouquine*. Dethan has also adapted *Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland* into a graphic novel.
She is best known for her work as a writer and artist on historical and mythological series, including *In het land van Horus*, *Kyklopkongen*, and *De tombe van Alexander*. Her style blends clean, expressive linework with detailed period settings, often collaborating with colorists and writers to bring ancient worlds to life. In 2019, she received the grand prize at the Bédéciné festival in Illzach and became the festival’s first president. The following year, the Pôle Image Magelis awarded her a prize. Her catalog spans over forty issues, with credits as artist, colorist, inker, and writer from 1997 to 2026.
