Hunt Emerson
Hunt Emerson (born 1952) is an English cartoonist best known for his exuberant, slapstick style and his long association with the British underground comics scene. He was a central figure at the Birmingham Arts Lab in the 1970s, where he developed his distinctive, loose-limbed linework and wild sense of visual comedy. Emerson’s work ranges from original comic strips to graphic novel adaptations of literary classics, including *The Rime of the Ancient Mariner*. His strips have appeared in *Knockabout Comics*, *Firkin*, and *Fortean Times*, and his art has been translated into many languages. Over a career spanning from 1979 to 2019, he contributed to series such as *Edgar Allan Poe's Snifter of Terror* and the Finnish publication *Myrkky*, often handling writing, art, lettering, and coloring. Emerson’s collaborations with writer Alan Moore on projects like *The Rime of the Ancient Mariner* are among his most noted works. He remains a respected figure in alternative comics, celebrated for his energetic, anarchic approach and his ability to bring classic texts to life with humor and vitality.
