Hitoshi Okuda
Hitoshi Okuda was born in 1963 in Daisen, Akita, Japan, and is best known for his long-running manga adaptations set in the *Tenchi Muyo!* universe. He began his career as a doujinshi artist before turning professional, studying under the noted creators Nobuteru Yū du and Yutaka Izubuchi. Okuda’s signature work is his eleven-year span of *Tenchi* manga, starting with *No Need for Tenchi!* in 1994 and concluding with *The All-New Tenchi Muyō!* in 2005. He also produced a collection of seventy-four four-panel comics for Pioneer LDC’s fan club newsletter, later released in English by VIZ Media as *Tenchi Muyō: Sasami Stories*. Okuda served as artist, inker, and writer on eighteen issues between 1996 and 2008, with his most credited titles including *No Need for Tenchi*, its sequels, and *The All-New Tenchi Muyo!* series. His work is noted for its warm characterizations and faithful expansion of the franchise’s world. While Okuda did not receive major industry awards, his consistent output made him the definitive manga voice for *Tenchi Muyo!* during its peak popularity. He remains a respected figure among fans of the series, though he has not produced widely known work outside the franchise.
