Hank Kanalz is an American comic book writer and editor best known for his work in the 1990s on superhero and action titles, and for his long executive career at DC Comics, where he oversaw the Vertigo and WildStorm imprints. Born in the United States, he entered comics as a writer, active from 1992 to 1996, with his most credited work appearing on series such as *Ex-Mutants*, *UltraForce*, *Eliminator*, *Siren*, *Siren Special*, and *Solitaire*. His writing style during this period leaned toward gritty, fast-paced adventure stories typical of the early Image Comics era. Later, he moved into editorial leadership, serving as Senior Vice President of Vertigo and Integrated Publishing at DC Comics, and as General Manager of the WildStorm brand. In these roles, he collaborated with a wide range of creators to shepherd mature-reader and creator-owned projects. After his tenure at DC, Kanalz became Head of Publishing for Immortal Studios, a company specializing in wuxia—martial arts and fantasy—comics and media. His legacy is defined by his transition from hands-on writing to high-level publishing strategy, helping shape two of DC’s most distinctive imprints.
