Gunnar Persson
Gunnar Persson (13 October 1933 – 8 April 2018) was a Swedish cartoonist best known for carrying on his family’s comic-strip legacy. Born in Sweden, he was the son of Elov Persson, the creator of *Kronblom*, one of the country’s longest-running comic characters. Gunnar first made his own mark in the pages of the comic book *91:an*, drawing the strips *Gus* and *Herr Larsson*. In 1968, as his father’s health declined, he took over the daily *Kronblom* strip, maintaining its gentle, rural humor for decades. His style stayed faithful to the original, with clean linework and a warm, understated tone. Over a long career spanning from the mid-1970s into the 2020s, he worked as artist, writer, colorist, and letterer on more than 70 issues, including *Kronblom* annuals, *Allers*, and the collection *Kronblom: Den sanne levnadskonstnären*. He never sought flashy innovations; instead, he quietly ensured a beloved Swedish institution survived and thrived. Gunnar Persson died in 2018 at age 84, leaving behind a body of work that kept a classic comic alive for a new generation.
