Giove Toppi (2 August 1888 – 21 July 1942) was an Italian cartoonist best known as the first artist to draw Mickey Mouse comics in Italy. Born in an era when Italian fumetti were still finding their footing, Toppi began his career in the early 1930s and quickly became a key figure in the country's burgeoning comic industry. He is most recognized for his work on *L'Avventuroso*, a pioneering adventure comic magazine, and *Topolino* (the Italian name for Mickey Mouse), where his clean, expressive linework helped introduce American-style cartooning to Italian readers. Toppi often collaborated with writer and editor Federico Pedrocchi, and together they produced early Italian Disney adaptations that shaped the local market. His signature style balanced energetic character poses with clear storytelling, making him a natural fit for both humorous and adventure strips. Beyond Disney, Toppi contributed to *Albi Grandi Avventure* and *Cino e Franco*, demonstrating versatility across genres. Though his active period lasted only from 1932 to 1941, his role in establishing the visual language of Italian Disney comics left a lasting legacy. Toppi passed away in 1942 at age 53, but his pioneering work is remembered as foundational to Italian comic art.
