Gerhard Seyfried, born March 15, 1948, is a German comic artist, cartoonist, and writer who emerged as a leading figure in the country's underground comix scene. Active from 1978 to 2018, he is best known for his satirical, politically charged work that often blends absurdist humor with sharp social commentary. Seyfried's path into comics began in the counterculture movement of the 1970s, where he contributed to alternative magazines before finding his voice as a solo creator.

His signature style combines detailed, expressive linework with a keen eye for caricature, often depicting chaotic urban life and anti-authoritarian themes. Key works include *Invasion aus dem Alltag*, *Flucht aus Berlin*, and *Das schwarze Imperium*, the latter a collaboration with writer and fellow underground artist. He frequently worked with partners such as the cartoonist and writer who helped shape his most notable co-creation, *Hanf im Glück*, a humorous exploration of cannabis culture. Seyfried's long-running series *Freakadellen und Bulletten* and *Wo soll das alles enden* further cemented his reputation for blending slice-of-life vignettes with political critique.

In 1990, he received the Max & Moritz Prize, Germany's most prestigious comic award, honoring his contributions to the medium. Later in life, Seyfried turned to writing novels and historical fiction, though his comic work remains a touchstone of German alternative art. His legacy endures as a sharp-eyed chronicler of the everyday and the absurd, influencing subsequent generations of European cartoonists.
