Georges David Wolinski was a French cartoonist and comics writer, best known for his sharp, satirical work in the pages of *Charlie Hebdo* and *Charlie Mensuel*. Born on 28 June 1934 in Tunisia, he moved to France as a teenager and began his career in the 1960s, contributing to magazines like *Hara-Kiri* before co-founding the original *Charlie Hebdo* in 1970. His style combined bold, expressive linework with a provocative, often darkly humorous take on politics, religion, and sexuality. Wolinski frequently collaborated with other satirists and cartoonists, including Cabu and Siné, and his writing for comics ranged from political commentary to more personal, introspective stories. He co-created the character *Le Dieu* and wrote for series such as *Paulette* and *Les Dingodossiers*. His later life was marked by his continued presence in French satire, even after the 2006 re-launch of *Charlie Hebdo*. On 7 January 2015, Wolinski was killed in the terrorist attack on the magazine’s office. He was 80. His legacy endures as a fearless voice in European cartooning, and he was posthumously awarded the Grand Prix de la Ville d'Angoulême in 2017.
