George Romero
George Andrew Romero was born February 4, 1940, in New York City and died July 16, 2017. Though primarily known as a filmmaker, he also brought his distinctive voice to comics, writing 19 issues between 1991 and 2015. He is best remembered as the pioneer who redefined the zombie genre, beginning with *Night of the Living Dead* (1968) and continuing through *Dawn of the Dead* (1978) and *Day of the Dead* (1985). These films established the modern zombie archetype and were laced with his trademark social commentary. Outside his famous series, Romero directed cult favorites like *The Crazies*, *Martin*, *Creepshow*, and the television anthology *Tales from the Darkside*. His comic work extended his living-dead universe, with titles such as *Toe Tags Featuring George Romero* and *George Romero's Empire of the Dead* allowing him to explore new narratives in the medium. He collaborated with various artists to translate his cinematic vision to the page. Romero's later films—*Land of the Dead*, *Diary of the Dead*, and *Survival of the Dead*—completed his six-film zombie saga. His legacy as the father of the zombie film remains profound, influencing countless creators across film, television, and comics.
