George Metzger, born in 1939, is an American cartoonist and animator whose career bridges the underground comix movement of the 1960s and 1970s with later work in animation. He first gained notice in California during the mid-1960s, contributing to the burgeoning counterculture scene with his detailed, often surreal linework. His most recognized creation is the series *Moondog*, a science-fiction fantasy that showcased his intricate style and world-building. He also produced *Beyond Time and Again*, *Truckin'*, and *Juice City*, and his work appeared in *Graphic Story Magazine* and *Brain Fantasy*. Active across multiple roles—artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer—Metzger contributed to 11 cataloged issues between 1967 and 2016. He later relocated to Canada, where he transitioned into animation, continuing to apply his distinctive visual sensibility. While not as widely celebrated as some of his peers, his early work remains a touchstone for fans of underground comix, blending whimsy with a meticulous draftsmanship that set him apart.
