Elov Persson
Elov V Persson (10 July 1894 – 9 July 1970) was a Swedish comic artist best known for creating the enduringly popular strip *Kronblom*. He was born in Hästbo, a small settlement in Hofors Municipality, Gästrikland. Persson launched *Kronblom* in 1927 for the magazine *Vårt Hem*, and a year later introduced a second strip, *Agust och Lotta*. His work became so embedded in Swedish culture that two live-action films—*Kronblom* (1947) and *Kronblom kommer till stan* (1949)—starred the popular actor Ludde Gentzel as the slow-moving but quick-thinking title character; Persson himself appeared in an unbilled cameo in the first film. His signature style blended gentle humor with a keen observation of rural life, and his strips were carried in titles such as *Arbeidermagasinet* and *Magasinet for Alle*. Persson died in Torsåker, one day before his 76th birthday. His legacy continued through his sons: Gunnar took over *Kronblom*, and Ingvar (1930–2015) continued *Agust och Lotta*. Our catalog credits Persson as artist, writer, inker, colorist, and letterer on 85 issues from 1930 to 1988, with his most-credited works including the *Kronblom* and *Agust* julalbum collections and the anniversary volume *Kronblom 1927-1977: 50-årsjubileum*.
