Elizabeth Hoy
Born Alice Nina Hoysradt on 2 February 1898 in Ireland, Elizabeth Hoy was a prolific romance novelist who also wrote under her maiden name, Nina Conarain. She produced over 70 novels between 1933 and 1980, but her work in comics is concentrated in a brief, energetic period from 1956 to 1959. During those years, she contributed to 11 issues, most notably for the anthology series *Famous Romance Library*, a staple of the romance comics boom. Hoy’s writing in this genre was characterized by emotional depth and a keen understanding of her readership, though she never achieved the same fame as some of her comic-book contemporaries. She died on 7 November 1982, leaving behind a substantial body of work that spanned nearly five decades. While her comic-book credits are limited, they represent a unique intersection of her novelistic skills with the visual storytelling of the medium. Hoy’s legacy remains that of a steady, reliable voice in romance fiction, with her comic work serving as a footnote to a long and industrious career.
