Eddie de Jong
Eddie de Jong was born in 1950 in Amsterdam. He is best known as the longtime artistic partner of writer René Windig, with whom he co-created the popular Dutch newspaper comic *Heinz*, a long-running strip centered on a grumpy, sarcastic cat. The duo’s work earned them the Stripschapprijs in 1991, one of the Netherlands’ highest comic honors. De Jong also contributed as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer across more than 130 issues from 1980 to 2013, with his most credited titles including *Metro*, *Wordt Vervolgd*, and the *Heinz* collections *Heinz van H tot Z* and *Niet zeuren, Heinz!*. Beyond comics, he and Windig designed album covers for the rock band Rockin’ Belly. De Jong’s style—clean, expressive, and deadpan—was essential to the dry humor that made *Heinz* a fixture in Dutch newspapers. His later work remained tied to the strip’s enduring popularity, and he is remembered as a key figure in modern Dutch cartooning, whose collaborations helped define a generation of newspaper comics.
