Eckart Breitschuh
1964–
Eckart Breitschuh, born 16 August 1964 in Karlsruhe, Germany, is a German comic artist and author whose work bridges atmospheric horror and dark fantasy. He is best known for his long-running series *Mabuse*, a psychological thriller inspired by the classic Dr. Mabuse character, and *Grimm*, a macabre reimagining of fairy tales. Breitschuh’s style is detailed and moody, often using heavy inks and muted colors to create a sense of dread. He frequently collaborates with writer and artist friends, but his most notable co-creation is the series *Luba Wolfschwanz*, a gritty werewolf saga. His catalog also includes *Wanda Caramba*, *Argstein – Das Gesetz des Waldes*, and contributions to the horror anthology *Welten des Schreckens*. Over a career spanning from 1997 to 2022, he has worked as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on 19 credited issues. Breitschuh’s later years saw him continue to produce independent work, though his output slowed. He has received recognition in German comics circles, including nominations for the Max & Moritz Prize, but no major international awards. His legacy endures among fans of European horror comics for his unflinching, atmospheric storytelling.
