David Boswell
1953–
David Boswell (born 1953) is a Canadian cartoonist, illustrator, and photographer best known as the creator of the long-running comic series *Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman*. He grew up in London, Hamilton, and Dundas, Ontario, and studied film at Sheridan College in Oakville, graduating in 1974. After struggling to establish himself as a cartoonist, he moved to Vancouver in 1977. His first professional full-page strip, "Heart Break Comics," ran in *The Georgia Straight* from 1977 to 1978. The following year, he launched his signature creation, *Reid Fleming*, a deadpan, surreal comedy about a belligerent milkman. Boswell also created the series *Ray-Mond*. His work is heavily influenced by classic film directors like Josef von Sternberg and Luis Buñuel, composer Hector Berlioz, and comedians Buster Keaton and W.C. Fields, often weaving in obscure Hollywood and European cinema references. He has written several unproduced screenplays. Boswell was inducted into the Canadian Cartoonist Hall of Fame in 2011.
