Dan Piraro was born in October 1958 and is best known as the creator of the syndicated single-panel comic *Bizarro*, which he has written and drawn since its launch. His work in comics began with that strip, which quickly became his signature, blending surreal humor, intricate linework, and a distinctive, slightly off-kilter visual style. Piraro’s *Bizarro* cartoons have been collected in sixteen book volumes, and he has also authored three prose books. In addition to his newspaper work, he contributed to comic books as an artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer across 25 issues from 1993 to 2016, with his most credited titles including *Bizarro*, *Larsons gale verden*, *Humoralbum*, *Pyton*, and *Billy*. His panel often features recurring motifs like the “Bizarro” version of a familiar scene or a sly twist on everyday life. Piraro’s legacy is that of a singular voice in American cartooning, known for his meticulous draftsmanship and willingness to tackle both absurdity and social commentary. He has received multiple awards from the National Cartoonists Society, including the Silver Reuben for Best Syndicated Panel.
