Dan Burr
1951–
Dan Burr was born on November 14, 1951, and is an American comic book artist best known for his detailed, historically grounded work set during the Great Depression. He began his career in commercial illustration before moving into comics in the mid-1980s, contributing to small press publishers such as Kitchen Sink Press, Eclipse Comics, and Dark Horse Comics. In 1988, Burr and writer James Vance co-created the six-issue limited series *Kings in Disguise* for Kitchen Sink, a multiple Harvey and Eisner Award winner that has been praised by figures including Alan Moore, Will Eisner, Harvey Kurtzman, and Art Spiegelman. The series is considered one of the hundred best comic book stories of all time. Burr also worked on *Death Rattle*, *Grateful Dead Comix*, and various *Crow* titles, including *The Crow: Waking Nightmares*, *Dead Time*, *Wild Justice*, and *Flesh & Blood*. In the 1990s, he contributed to Paradox Press's *The Big Book Of* series and Mojo Press. In 2012, he collaborated with writer Michael Goodwin on *Economix: How Our Economy Works (And Doesn't Work) In Words and Pictures*, a *New York Times* bestseller. In 2013, Burr and Vance reunited for the sequel *On the Ropes*, published by W. W. Norton, which received positive reviews from the *Los Angeles Times* and *Publishers Weekly*. Beyond comics, Burr creates editorial illustrations, caricatures, portraiture, and children's book art. He lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his wife and art partner, Debbie Freiberg.
