Dai Darell, born Diane Elizabeth Karlstrom on October 5, 1952, was a Swedish-American writer known for her work in comics and young adult fiction. She passed away on July 8, 2024. Darell is best remembered for her contributions to the long-running adventure strip *Fantomen* (the Swedish version of *The Phantom*), where she wrote 18 issues between 1983 and 1990, with her work also appearing in the Finnish edition *Mustanaamio*. Her path into comics came through her background as a novelist, bringing a literary sensibility to the medium. Darell’s writing was characterized by a strong narrative drive and a focus on character development, often collaborating with artists on the *Fantomen* series. She is noted for co-creating storylines that expanded the Phantom mythos during her tenure. Later in life, she continued writing young adult novels, though her comic work remains her most recognized achievement. While she did not receive major industry awards, her steady, professional contributions to European adventure comics left a lasting mark on the character’s legacy in Scandinavia.
