Cornelis Johannes Kieviet was a Dutch teacher and children's author, best known for creating the beloved character Dik Trom. Born on March 8, 1858, in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, he spent his career in education before turning to writing. His Dik Trom stories, which follow the adventures of a cheerful, mischievous boy, became classics of Dutch children's literature. Though he died on August 12, 1931, his character remains so iconic that a statue of Dik Trom sitting backwards on a donkey stands in Hoofddorp's main square. In comics, Kieviet is credited as a writer on 13 issues between 1990 and 1993, primarily for *Donald Duck* and *Dik Trom* adaptations. His work has been adapted by later artists and remains a touchstone of Dutch popular culture.
