Clayton Knight (March 30, 1891 – July 17, 1969) was an American aviator, artist, and illustrator best known for bringing his firsthand experience of flight to comics and aviation art. Born in Rochester, New York, Knight served as a pilot in World War I, an experience that shaped his career. After the war, he became a prominent aviation illustrator and co-founded the Clayton Knight Committee, which recruited American pilots for the Canadian and British air forces before the U.S. entered World War II.

In comics, Knight is most recognized as the illustrator of the newspaper strip *Ace Drummond*, a flying adventure series that ran in the 1930s. His work combined technical accuracy with dynamic action, reflecting his deep knowledge of aircraft. He also contributed to titles such as *Pilot*, *Magic Comics*, and *King Comics*, working across the 1930s into the late 1970s. His art often featured clean, dramatic linework and a strong sense of motion.

Knight’s legacy lies in bridging aviation history and popular entertainment. He received no major comic industry awards during his lifetime, but his influence endures in aviation art and early adventure strips. He died in 1969 in Danbury, Connecticut.
