Christophe Blain
1970–
Christophe Blain was born on 10 August 1970 in France. He is best known as a French comic book author whose work spans writing, art, coloring, inking, and lettering across more than thirty issues from 1999 to 2022. Blain first gained notice for his clean, expressive ligne claire style, which he applied to adventure and fantasy stories. He is most recognized for the swashbuckling series *Isaac le pirate* (also published as *Isaak der Pirat*), which showcases his knack for dynamic sea-faring narratives and detailed period settings. He also contributed to the sprawling *Donjon* universe, a fantasy series created by Lewis Trondheim and Joann Sfar, where Blain’s art brought quirky dungeon dwellers to life. His collaboration with Trondheim extended to *Gus*, a whimsical Western. Other notable projects include *Eine Hommage an Leutnant Blueberry*, a tribute to the classic Western hero, and the culinary memoir *In der Küche mit Alain Passard*, where he illustrated the famed chef’s kitchen philosophy. Blain’s work often balances humor, historical detail, and a light, accessible line. He has not received major awards widely noted in English-language sources, but his influence on modern French bande dessinée remains steady. He continues to work, maintaining a reputation for thoughtful, visually engaging storytelling.
