Christian Godard
Christian Godard was a French cartoonist born on 24 March 1932, who built a prolific career across Belgian and French comics over more than five decades. He is perhaps best remembered for his long-running series Martin Milan, which appeared in the pages of Tintin magazine, but his output extended well beyond that title. His work on The Vagabond of Limbo — known in French as Le Vagabond des Limbes — proved equally enduring, earning publication across multiple European markets and remaining among his most visible credits. Over the course of his career he contributed as artist, writer, colorist, and inker to nearly 200 issues of various publications, with his active period stretching from 1969 into the mid-2020s. Other series bearing his name include Norbert and Kari, Toupet, The Cyberkiller, Oki, and Axel Moonshine, reflecting a range that moved comfortably between science fiction, adventure, and humor. He also contributed to the popular French anthology Pif Gadget. Godard continued working well into his later years, a testament to a sustained creative energy that few cartoonists of his generation matched. He died from cancer in Paris on 6 November 2024, at the age of 92.
