Carole Barrowman
Carole Barrowman (born 20 April 1959) is a Scottish-American writer and academic best known for her work on *Torchwood* comics and the *Arrow: The Dark Archer* series. Born in Scotland, she later moved to the United States, where she built a dual career as a novelist and professor. Her path into comics came through her collaboration with her brother, actor John Barrowman, with whom she co-wrote several *Torchwood* comic stories published between 2010 and 2021. Together, they also created the *Acursian* series and the DC Comics miniseries *Arrow: The Dark Archer*, which expanded the television universe of the *Arrow* character. Barrowman’s writing style balances sharp dialogue with emotional depth, often exploring themes of identity and family. Her key collaborators include John Barrowman and artist Beni R. Lobel. Beyond comics, she is a noted scholar of media and culture, having authored books on narrative theory and popular fiction. She has received no major comic industry awards to date, but her contributions to licensed comics—particularly in the *Torchwood* and *Arrow* franchises—have earned her a dedicated readership. She continues to write and teach, bridging academic rigor with genre storytelling.
