Angelo Todaro
Angelo Todaro (17 December 1945 – 22 March 2025) was an Italian comics artist, writer, and essayist whose career stretched across more than five decades. Born in Italy, he worked under the pen names Paul Bennett and Al Todd. Todaro is best known for his clean, dynamic linework on adventure and fantasy titles, particularly his long association with the newspaper strip *Mandrake* and the masked hero *Le Fantôme* (The Phantom). He also contributed to *Kriminal*, *Turok, Son of Stone*, and *Star Trek* comics, as well as *L'Uomo Mascherato nuova serie* (part of the *Avventure americane* line). His style was marked by a strong sense of composition and a flair for dramatic action, making him a reliable collaborator on both European and licensed American properties. Among his notable co-creations are several *Mandrake* stories and *Kriminal* tales, though he is primarily remembered as a skilled journeyman who elevated every project he touched. Later in life, Todaro turned to essay writing, reflecting on the medium he loved. He passed away in March 2025 at age 79. While major industry awards are not recorded in the available sources, his steady output from 1967 to 2022—credited on 33 issues in our catalog—cements his legacy as a dedicated craftsman of Italian comics.
