Alfonso Figueras
Alfonso Figueras, born Alfons Figueras i Fontanals on 15 October 1922 in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona, Spain, was a Spanish cartoonist whose work left a distinct mark on European horror and humor comics. He began his career in the post-war Spanish publishing scene, contributing to a variety of magazines before finding his most enduring niche. Figueras is best known for creating the comedic duo *Aspirino y Colodión* and the parody hero *Topolino, el último héroe* (Topolino, the Last Hero). His style blended a clean, expressive line with a wry, often absurd sense of humor, making him a natural fit for the horror-comedy hybrid magazines of the 1970s and 1980s. During his most prolific period from 1971 to 1983, he worked extensively as an artist, inker, and writer on over 50 issues for Spanish publishers, with his work appearing most frequently in titles such as *Dossier Negro*, *Pip*, *S.O.S.*, *Creepy Almanaque*, *Gru*, and *Vampus*. He often collaborated with other Spanish cartoonists and writers of the era, contributing to the distinctive voice of the country’s underground and genre comics. Figueras died on 6 July 2009 in his hometown. While he did not receive major international awards, his characters and contributions to Spanish comics remain fondly remembered by collectors and historians of European genre art.
