Alexander Maleev

Alex Maleev is a Bulgarian comic book illustrator best known for his gritty, photorealistic work on Marvel Comics' *Daredevil* (vol. 2), where he collaborated extensively with writer Brian Michael Bendis. Born in Bulgaria, Maleev broke into the industry in the mid-1990s, with his earliest credits appearing from 1995 to 1997. During that period, he contributed primarily to *The Crow* franchise, including titles such as *Il Corvo Presenta*, *The Crow: Dead Time*, and *The Crow: Flesh & Blood*, as well as the fantasy series *Arabian Nights on the World of Magic: The Gathering*. His signature style—dark, moody, and cinematic—helped define the visual identity of Bendis's *Daredevil* run, and Steven S. DeKnight later cited Maleev's art as a template for the *Daredevil* television series. Beyond his work on *Daredevil*, Maleev has continued to produce covers and interior art for major publishers, often handling his own coloring and inking. He has received multiple industry awards, including an Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series for his *Daredevil* work. Maleev's legacy lies in his ability to merge European artistic sensibilities with mainstream superhero storytelling, influencing a generation of artists drawn to his textured, shadow-drenched panels.
