Zonker Harris
Zonker Harris is a free-spirited, perpetually tanned slacker from Garry Trudeau's Doonesbury strip, known for his laid-back philosophy, devotion to sunbathing, and membership in the extended Walden College social circle alongside Mike Doonesbury and other counterculture friends.
A Bronze Age creation who first surfaced in The Comics Journal #44 in 1979, Zonker Harris is a character whose catalog footprint stretches a remarkable 26 years, from 1979 all the way to 2005. Most of their appearances are concentrated in Calgary Herald–published collections, sharing pages with an eclectic crowd that includes Peter Parker, Dagwood Bumstead, Andy Capp, and Mike Doonesbury — quite the cross-section of comics royalty. With appearances in landmark retrospective volumes like Flashbacks: Twenty-Five Years of Doonesbury, Zonker Harris occupies a genuinely curious niche in the Bronze Age landscape, the kind of under-the-radar discovery that makes digging through catalog oddities so rewarding for the dedicated collector.
