Who is Veranke?

Veranke is a Skrull queen who, believing Earth to be the promised world of Skrull prophecy, spearheaded a secret Skrull infiltration of Earth by replacing key Marvel heroes with disguised Skrull sleeper agents — most notably assuming the identity of Spider-Woman.

Veranke made her Marvel debut in the very first issue of Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch's New Avengers in 2005, stepping onto the Modern Age stage surrounded by some of the heaviest hitters in the Marvel Universe — Captain America, Wolverine, Luke Cage, and Spider-Woman among them. With appearances spanning two decades and pages shared across New Avengers, Runaways, and Young Avengers, she's woven into the fabric of an era that reshaped Marvel storytelling. Her appearances may be selective, but they carry weight — including at least one collector-recognized key issue — making her a figure whose presence in a longbox is always worth a second look.
