Who is Staline?
A figure of unmistakable historical weight rendered through the singular lens of French comics, Staline stepped onto the page in 1981 courtesy of creator Martin Veyron in the pages of Pilote Mensuel — one of the most celebrated Franco-Belgian comics magazines of its era. Published by Dargaud across the 1980s, this Bronze Age creation shares the page with no less than Lénine, suggesting a world steeped in the grand and often grim theatre of twentieth-century history. Most closely associated with Partie de chasse, Staline is a rare and intriguing presence in the catalog — compact in appearances but clearly purposeful, the kind of character that makes a serious artistic statement rather than filling out a roster.
