Slither
Slither is a serpent-themed villain and member of the Serpent Society, a mercenary organization of snake-powered criminals. He operates as part of that collective's rogues roster, bringing a reptilian threat to encounters with Captain America and related heroes.
A slithering presence in Marvel's rogues' gallery, Slither debuted in 1988's Captain America #342 β a Copper Age creation from the legendary Mark Gruenwald and Kieron Dwyer β arriving as a card-carrying member of the Serpent Society, one of comics' most entertainingly themed villain collectives. Over a surprisingly long stretch reaching into 2022, this serpentine schemer has shared pages with the likes of Steve Rogers himself, Viper, Copperhead, and Captain America, which tells you exactly the caliber of Marvel action Slither inhabits. With appearances across Captain America, Essential Defenders, and Avengers, Slither may not rack up the highest page count, but any villain who keeps turning up across three-plus decades in Marvel's biggest titles has clearly earned their place in the ecosystem. For collectors who love deep-cut Serpent Society lore and Gruenwald's gloriously committed corner of the Marvel Universe, Slither is a genuinely satisfying find.
