Slimer
A voracious Class 5 free-roaming vapor—originally nicknamed 'Onionhead' by the Ghostbusters—Slimer is a gluttonous ghost defined by his insatiable appetite and signature ectoplasmic slime. Captured and later embraced as the team's unlikely mascot, he can fly, phase through solid matter, and drench anyone nearby in goo.
Few comic characters can claim to be both a fan-favorite mascot and a genuine publishing phenomenon, but Slimer has earned every bit of that reputation across an extraordinary 271 catalog appearances spanning 1986 to 2019. Debuting in Marvel UK's The Real Ghostbusters Spectacular 3-D Special — brought to comics life by Barry Petersen and Norm Dwyer right at the dawn of the Copper Age — this gloriously green ghoul went on to headline his own dedicated series, Slimer!, while remaining a fixture of The Real Ghostbusters comics for over three decades. Along the way he shares pages with the likes of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddmore, Janine Melnitz, and even the legendary Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, making for some of the most beloved supernatural ensemble comics of the era. With a key issue already on collectors' radar and a publishing run that stretches all the way to 2019, Slimer is proof positive that some characters are simply too irresistible to stay contained — on the page or off it.
