SJS Judge Ishmael is a member of the Special Judicial Squad, the internal affairs division responsible for investigating and policing the judges of Mega-City One — effectively a judge who judges other judges in the brutal world of Judge Dredd.

Stepping out of the unforgiving world of Mega-City One's internal affairs, SJS Judge Ishmael made their debut in 2000 AD #1384 in 2004 — a Modern Age creation from the legendary Tharg the Mighty, born into one of British comics' most celebrated universes. Over two decades of publication across 2000 AD, the Judge Dredd Megazine, and the Complete Case Files, this figure has kept genuinely elite company, sharing pages with Judge Dredd himself, Psi Judge Anderson, and Judge Giant. Eleven catalog appearances may sound modest, but in the dense, demanding world of Dredd lore, every appearance counts — and a character who has endured from 2004 through 2024 has clearly earned their place on the streets.
