Who is Serpentor?

Serpentor is a genetically engineered emperor created to lead Cobra, his DNA spliced from history's greatest conquerors. This IDW continuation follows Larry Hama's classic Marvel run, reintroducing the self-proclaimed ruler as a recurring threat within the ongoing G.I. Joe conflict.

Slithering back into the G.I. Joe universe under IDW's banner, this incarnation of Serpentor made his Modern Age debut in the landmark issue #155 1/2 in 2010, brought to life by the legendary Larry Hama alongside artist Agustín Padilla. Across a handful of appearances spanning titles like G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Special Missions, and G.I. Joe Season 2, he shares the page with some of the most iconic figures in the mythos — Scarlett, Baroness, and others — making every appearance feel like an event. With only six catalog appearances, this Serpentor is a rare, targeted presence rather than a ubiquitous one, which makes tracking down his issues a genuinely rewarding hunt for the dedicated collector.
