Who is Rupert Thorne?

Rupert Thorne is one of the great corrupt political heavyweights of the Batman mythos, a scheming crime boss who slithered onto the scene in 1980 courtesy of the legendary Bronze Age creative team of Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers. He keeps remarkably distinguished company for a villain — his pages are shared with the likes of Alfred Pennyworth, Dick Grayson, Commissaris James Gordon, and even Superman himself. With appearances spanning both Batman Classics and Batman, Thorne represents exactly the kind of morally bankrupt power-broker that makes Gotham City such a rich and dangerous place to call home.
